Great Leicester pub this festive season

The Steamin’ Billy brand was formed in 1998 when a local Leicester landlord asked one of his beer suppliers from Leatherbritches Brewery if he could produce a house beer for the Cow & Plough in Oadby.

The beer was so named after the landlord’s dog Billy who used to return from an hour or two chasing rabbits over the Leicestershire countryside “steamin” as the locals said, with steam rising from his back while he panted and enjoyed half a bowl of beer.

 The beers were brewed by Leatherbritches up till 2000, but demand steadily outgrew capacity and the brewing was moved to The Grainstore in Oakham where 3 regular beers are brewed under the careful supervision of the Davies family.
